How to help a small business in these unstable economic, political and social times

January 27, 2025

There are 5.5m small businesses in the UK (according to gov.uk, 2024)  so you will all have friends who are running small or micro-business and they NEED your help to survive.  Here are a few tips that are easy to do and won't cost you a penny.

🌟 Who can you refer to them?  For me, it is who needs help with their recruitment?
It's as simple as that.  There are no whopping fees, no contracts to be tied into.  The model works for larger national businesses through to local charities.  Just a simple person-focused approach to finding great talent.

🌟 Write a review of the services you have received - in my case, this is either as a candidate, Hiring Manager or someone who has been mentored.

🌟 Share and comment on social media posts to help with promotion and engagement.

🌟 Invites to events, networking, exhibitions and any trade related activities.  You may have seen something that is a perfect match for a business, so worth suggesting it.

I love meeting new people so getting out and about is essential to my success - both physically and mentally. HR and recruitment are only about people so this is where I really connect and get my energy from.

🌟 Buy from them. Shop local and support small businesses. This is the most obvious way to support any business but I appreciate this is not always possible because of what they sell.

Make a friend do a happy dance - and yes, I really dance when a great candidate is matched to an amazing job. It's wonderful.
